Alison

Alison Gates

Alison Gates is the Art Program Chair at the University of Wisconsin Green Bay. She holds a Master’s of Fine Art in Studio Textiles from the University of Washington. As co-curator of the Exquisite Uterus Art of Resistance Project, she often explores feminist themes in her artwork. Frequently addressing women’s history and labor in textiles and mixed-media constructions, Gates also teaches feminist art theory and writes about textiles for publication. Recently Gates was awarded top honors in the Slocumb Gallery’s Positive/Negative exhibition by Mika Yoshitake of the Smithsonian’s Hirshhorn Museum.

Helen Klebesadel

Helen Klebesadel is known for her environmental and women centered watercolors, as well as for creating the Exquisite Uterus Art of Resistance Project with Alison Gates.  She maintains her art practice while Directing the Women’s and Gender Studies Consortium of the University of Wisconsin Madison.   Klebesadel’s paintings are in numerous collections and she exhibits her art nationally and internationally,  Helen has taught courses and workshops on creativity, studio art, and the contemporary women’s art movement for more than two decades. She is a past national president of the national Women’s Caucus for Art.  See her watercolors here:  klebesadel.com
